Hazelnut Chocolate-Filled Cookies for a #PerLaFamiglia Blog Hop and Giveaway @ERiscooking

I absolutely love cookbooks. I always have, ever since I was a kid. The only copy my family owned when I was young was a Disney cookbook. Each recipe featured a different beloved Disney character and the book was full of beautiful illustrations. While other kids were watching tv or reading comics, I’d pore through that cookbook non-stop. I was such a little weirdo!

My love (or, my obsession, as The Husband would characterize it) of cookbooks endures to this day and when I was offered a chance to be a  part of today’s blog hop in honour of Emily Richards’ lovely and delicious new cookbook, Per La Famiglia, I jumped at the chance.

Emily is an author and home economist whose Southern Italian heritage inspired her to write this book in order to share her family’s recipes. I love all the big beautiful photos of drool-inducing food as well as Emily’s personal notes which precede every recipe.

A group of fabulous Canadian bloggers have gathered together today to cook and bake from Emily’s book in the hopes you’ll be inspired to add it to your cookbook collection. I chose these hazelnut chocolate-filled cookies for obvious reasons – it gave me an excuse to crack open my ginormous jar of hazelnut chocolate spread.Hazelnut Chocolate-Filled Cookies | www.gottagetbaked.com

Ok, now onto the good stuff: the food! Emily’s recipes are clear, easy to read and understand, and she includes tons of tips which is always a bonus. There are so many dishes I’ve earmarked to make but for today’s post, I sampled two. First up, her Nonna’s egg and raisin bread:

Look at them, so golden ‘n delicious!

The recipe for this fragrant, sweet bread, lightly flavoured with orange zest and studded with juicy golden raisins can be found at She Eat’s blog post.

Unfortunately, I can’t share the recipe for the hazelnut chocolate-filled cookies (you’ll have to pick up a copy of the book for this one!) so I’ll simply torture you with photos:

This cookie dough was super easy to put together. It’s absolutely studded with chopped roasted hazelnuts.

Roll, cut, repeat.

Place them on a baking sheet like so.

Golden, crispy, nutty cookies for daaaaaays.

The most important part – the hazelnut chocolate spread! Get it on thick, I say!

The cookies are slightly sweet, super nutty and I baked them a bit longer to get them extra crunchy. They’re super addictive alone or smeared with a good healthy dose of the chocolate spread. Needless to say, they disappeared from my house (and into my belly) pretty quick!

Many many thanks go out to Emily Richards for writing this wonderful book, Whitecap Publishing for providing me with a free copy and Microplane for providing the elite grater/zester set for our giveaway.

  5. When I was little, I had a little Disney cookbook too. It even came with measuring spoons. Glad to know I wasn’t the only kid obsessed with cooking🙂
