I was contacted a few weeks ago by the lovely Alice of A Mama, Baby & Shar-pei in the Kitchen. We met back in September at IFBC in Seattle. She asked if I’d be willing to donate anything to an on-line bake sale she’s holding today for her good friend, Becca and her husband, Joel. When I read Becca’s story here, I knew I had to participate. Six years ago, Becca discovered that she’s afflicted with an uncommon medical condition that does not allow her to have a baby. After years of searching for a way to fulfill her dream of having a family, Becca and Joel have found a clinic in New Hampshire that has developed a highly successful procedure that can reverse her condition. However, the procedure is also extremely expensive and is not covered by Becca’s insurance.
Alice is holding this on-line bake sale in the hopes of raising money to bring Becca closer to her dream. There are a ton of incredible things up for auction.
I’ve donated four cookbooks, all in excellent condition (if I may say so myself!):
Bite Me by Julie Albert & Lisa Gnat
The Main Recipes by (the late) Anthony Sedlak
Passion & Palate by John Howie
The Pasta Bible by Jeni Wright
There are cookbooks autographed by their celebrity chef authors (including an autographed copy of Dorie Greenspan’s Baking From My Home To Yours – SO AWESOME!), cookies and cakes baked by some incredible bloggers (including my friend Liz of That Skinny Chick Can Bake), jams, aprons, the list goes on!
I encourage you all to visit Alice’s page by clicking HERE and scope out all the awesome goodies. If you bid and win an item, not only will you be getting something super tasty or useful, but you’ll also be helping a woman going through an extremely tough personal and financial situation.
What an awesome idea and charity Nancy! That’s so wonderful for you to partake in that and oh my, yummy COOKIES!! Cookies are the way to my heart 🙂
Thank you so much Nancy!! 🙂 This is Becca! I just wanted to write and tell you that we appreciate SO MUCH your willingness to donate your time and books! 🙂 And thank you so much for promoting it on your blog! 🙂
What a great thing you’re doing, Nancy!
So very generous of you, Nancy. I would have bid on your books for sure…Unfortunately I’ve just come home from dance class and it is 11:02 p.m. PT when I opened my e-mail and saw the Bloglovin’ report…If perchance or fate your books were not swooped up, do let me know =)
Kudos to you for helping out. I found this too late or else I would have bid on your stuff.
How lovely – I’m so sorry I missed out!
Nancy, with all of the comments here saying, “Shoot, I would have bid but missed the deadline!” maybe Alice should offer a second chance auction?! I hope the first one was wildly successful and that the funds raised can help bring Becca closer to her dream. It is wonderful when food blogging can have a positive impact of things besides waistlines. 🙂
A great idea and an important cause. Thank you for sharing with us!
Such a great idea. I can’t to be a part of something like this!
